All new goods vehicles are now legally required to have a digital tachograph unit installed. While this doesn't make any difference to the role of the tachograph and the hours a driver can work, it does however change how employers need to fulfill their legal obligations.
When examining and retaining tachograph data, employers now need to download and store any data recorded on the digital tachograph.
Unlike the old analogue tachographs which produced a physical wax chart that could be filed and stored. The new digital tachographs record any data digitally on drivers smartcards and onto the digital tachograph itself.
As all fleet operators are legally obliged to store any data for 12 months, they need a hardware tool that allows you to download this data to their computer and store it in a secure database.
So as an employer, you are still required to check that their drivers are complying with the EU Drivers' Hours and Working Time Directive. Digital tachographs dont produce a physical chart for you to look at, so by using our free software tool you can download and check the data from your driver's smartcards onto our 'Smartanalysis' database.
