Workers (Predictable Terms and Conditions) Bill

Date

Effective sometime in 2023

Summary

The Workers (Predictable Terms and Conditions) Bill is a Private members’ bill introduced by Scott Benton, Independent MP for Blackpool South.

It aims to provide workers on flexible or casual contracts with more predictable working patterns. In certain circumstances, workers would be able to apply for more regular working patterns. The idea is that it would operate in a similar way to flexible working requests – the employer would have to deal with the request in a timely manner and would need to establish grounds for refusing.

A worker’s request would need to include certain minimum information outlining what they’re seeking in relation to the predictability of their working pattern and a proposed start date.

Latest update:

The Bill is currently in its second reading in the House of Lords and has received government support.
