Legislation
UK Income Tax allowances 2025-26
Date
Effective 6 April 2025
Summary
Income Tax allowances reduce the amount of income you’re taxed on, helping lower your overall tax bill.
The most common is the Personal Allowance, which lets you earn a set amount tax-free each year.
For the current tax year, the standard personal allowance remains at £12,570. This means most people won’t pay tax on the first £12,570 of their earnings.
Other allowances may apply depending on your circumstances, like the Blind Person’s Allowance or the Marriage Allowance. These can further reduce your taxable income, ensuring you’re not paying more tax than necessary.
