From January 2027, ordinary unfair dismissal protection is expected to move from two years to six months, meaning the first few months of employment will become a much more critical window.
The first six months can disappear quickly. And by the time decisions need to be made, employers may have far less time, evidence and room for error than they’re used to. This means everything from onboarding and probation reviews to performance conversations and escalation to HR will all need to work together from the start.
In the final session of the ERA Blueprint Series, Patrick Cunningham, Head of HR Operations at Moorepay, will help you understand what’s changing and what employers should be thinking about before January 2027.
We’ll look at the six-month unfair dismissal shift, why early employment processes may need to change, and how employers can build a stronger framework for managers to act earlier, document clearly and make fairer, more confident decisions.
Those who attend live will also receive a session Blueprint Book, designed to help you identify where action may be needed, support manager confidence and keep building business confidence beyond the webinar.
This Smart Talk is ideal for HR teams and business leaders who want to prepare for unfair dismissal reform and understand how to manage the first six months with more structure and confidence.

Across the series, we’ll cover the reforms already live and still to come, before taking a deeper look at two major changes employers need to prepare for.
