Payroll Essentials: Preparing for Employment Allowance Changes from April 2020
October 2019
Currently, most employers can claim the maximum NICs employment allowance against their NI contributions. This was something introduced by HMRC in 2014 to support small firms to hire employees and grow.
But HMRC is introducing new rules for claiming employment allowance. From April 2020, employment allowance will only be available to employers with a secondary NICs liability below £100K in the previous tax year. In addition, employment allowance will be reclassified as a type of de minimis state aid.
