Myth Busting: Switching Payroll Provider Edition
As a payroll professional, you’re loyal. You’ll stick with your supplier through thick and thin. Putting up with subpar integration, clunky software and even payroll inaccuracies. But why? It all boils down to the fear of switching payroll provider.
If the phrase ‘switching provider’ makes your palms puddle with sweat, you’ve fallen victim to the vicious rumours the industry has spread on the horrors of switching provider. Fear not, we’re here to bust those myths wide open.
Maybe you could be living in payroll bliss after all?
Myth 1: Switching Payroll Providers Takes A Long Time
You’ve got buy in from your stakeholders, your employees are ready for their payslips to take a step out of the dark ages, and your IT department are fired on all cylinders. Flash forward six months and you’re sat on the same old system, with weekly calls where the general consensus is “when is this landing?”
Frequently, payrollers are reluctant to switch providers due to the timing and lengthy implementation process. News flash, there is never going to be a ‘perfect time,’ and unfortunately, your switch isn’t going to happen overnight. However, there are ways to alleviate some of the pain. For instance, you should always get a thorough implementation, training and onboarding plan to ensure you can keep your stakeholders posted on how long the switch will take. Think carefully about when you will be switching, when is the best time for you? The new financial year might be logical. Just make sure to avoid your peak periods.
Here at Moorepay, we offer a fast track implementation plan. That means if you’re time-poor, you can have payroll up and running within just 4 weeks.
Myth 2: Switching Payroll Providers is Risky
So, what’s the risk? Well, unpaid employees knocking at your door demanding cash on the last day of the month isn’t ideal. While the possibility of a data breach is enough to send any payroll manager packing.
If you’re a risk-taker then you might be content with a poorly implemented solution, that isn’t adequately tested, and the result – disgruntled employees and GDPR issue galore.
We work hard to mitigate risk for our customers, we’ll implement ‘dry’ payroll runs to ensure our payroll calculations and payments are correct. In addition to this, we will do parallel runs with current suppliers to ensure payments are accurate, on time and you can sleep safe in the knowledge that risk is mitigated.
Myth 3: Switching Payroll Providers Is A Lot Of Hassle
Sick of the service from your payroll provider, but don’t have the time, energy or inclination to switch?
In our annual payroll switching survey, there was a 56% year-on-year increase in those who ranked hassle as the main driver for them not switching payroll providers. Time to make a stand against lousy service and search for the switch!
You will of course be required to give some time and energy to the project of switching. However, it shouldn’t be much more than a few days’ work for you. Here at Moorepay we do the ‘heavy lifting’ to ensure your implementations, onboarding and training goes as smooth as possible.
Myth 4: Switching payroll providers is difficult
“I work hard, I have enough on my plate – why would I want to add switching payroll to my long to-do list? Plus, I like my current account manager Dave, his jokes make me laugh.”
We hear you.
If going-live dates passing you by, clunky implementation and complicated onboarding fill you with dread, then we’re in the same boat. Maybe at one time it was hordes of paperwork, binders busting with payslips and reams of data flying around unprotected, but not this time.
